Beijing is a glamorous city with a long history of more than 2,900 years. As China's political, cultural and educational center, Beijing is a rapidly developing metropolis longing for various exchanges with other countries in this increasingly globalizing world.

Peking University is proud of its outstanding faculty, including 48 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 9 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and 21 members of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).

The university has effectively combined research on important scientific subjects with the training of personnel with a high level of specialized knowledge and professional skill as demanded by the country's socialist modernization. It strives not only for improvements in teaching and research work but also for the promotion of interaction and mutual promotion among various disciplines.

Thus Peking University has become a center for teaching and research and a university of a new type, embracing diverse branches of learning such as basic and applied sciences, social sciences and the humanities, and sciences of medicine, management, and education. Its aim is to rank among the world's best universities in the future.

International students of Peking University may apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS), Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS), or Peking University Scholarship (PKUS). International students from Confucius Institutes also can apply for the Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS). The scholarships are categorized into full scholarships and partial scholarships.

The scholarships are preferentially awarded to excellent international students for degree studies at Peking University. The students who have been granted scholarships are requested to participate in the annual review, and those passing the annual review are eligible for next-year scholarship support.

International Students may live on campus at the Shao Yuan Student Dormitory or Zhongguanyuan Global Village. Students who live on campus must abide by the rules and regulations of their residence.

International Students who extended their duration of study will not be provided with on-campus housing arrangements.

Students may also choose to live off-campus under the condition that they must register themselves at the police station of their residential area and obtain an Accommodation Certificate from the local police station. If you are living off-campus, do ensure that your rental contract with your landlord is legitimate and reliable.

The Peking University Library is one of the largest university libraries in Asia and has a collection of over 7 million books. Due to security reasons, students are required to swipe their campus card, which serves as their library card, at the building's entrance in order to enter the library.

Peking University has more than a hundred student organizations. These organizations recruit new members during the month of September. Students may learn about the ongoing and upcoming events of the various student organizations by observing the notices displayed on the notice boards around campus. Students are encouraged to be active in their university life by getting involved in the various organizations/societies that they are interested in.
